Proper eye care is important for people of all ages and regular eye exams are encouraged for everyone, especially for those already using glasses or contact lenses. Your vision plays a vital role in your life each and every day, which is why it is so important to take the right steps for maintaining good eye health. At Altos Family Optometry, we provide a variety of services, from general exams to corrective surgery.
Cornea Reshaping Therapy
Orthokeratology reshapes the cornea without surgery using corrective contact lenses to gently reshape the transparent front part of the eye (the cornea). These contacts will allow you to see clearly even after you remove the lenses.
Orthokeratology is not a permanent procedure, so you’ll need to wear the lenses each night to maintain the corrected shape of the cornea. Dr. Lodenquai will customize the fitting of the specialty lenses to each patient. If you desire to stop the procedure, you may simply go back to wearing regular contact lenses or glasses.
Call to schedule a consultation and she will be happy to talk with you.
Lasik Evaluation and Management
With LASIK, eye surgeons reshape the cornea with a laser (a beam of focused light). In many cases, LASIK allows the patient to do without contacts or eyeglasses entirely. LASIK can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Dr. Lodenquai provides evaluation and management for her patients who decide to go with LASIK. She works with your eye surgeon to provide you with the best care.
Evaluations for Cataracts, Glaucoma, or Macular Degeneration
Cataracts
Cataracts are associated with aging. They form a cloudy area in the lens of the eye which can cause a decline in vision, depending on their size and location on the lens.
Studies have shown that UV protection may reduce the incidence and progression of cataracts.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a complex eye disease involving damage to the optic nerve and visual field loss. Vision loss can occur when the pressure inside the eye is too high and damages the optic nerve.
It is important to get regular glaucoma checkups from an eye care professional because the disease can be managed with minimal vision loss if detected early.
Our doctors are able to perform glaucoma evaluations using a variety of testing methods and equipment.
Macular Degeneration
Our doctors can evaluate your eyes for macular degeneration via a comprehensive eye exam. People over the age of 55 are at higher risk for macular degeneration. It is important to detect and treat it early since treatment reduces the loss of vision associated with the disease. We recommend a yearly eye exam for everyone 55 and over just to make sure senior life styles can be enjoyed with good vision.
Red Eye Evaluations
A red eye is a key sign of ocular inflammation. It can be caused by many things including allergy, viral or bacterial infections, injuries, burst micro blood vessels, or even just fatigue.
Most cases of red eye can be easily treated. However, it is important to let your eye care provider assess and evaluate the situation rather than self-treatment in order to prevent serious eye injuries. Our doctors provide triage assessment and treatment for emergency incidents. In cases of a true emergency the patient should go to the emergency room or simply call 911 without delay.
